Roel Paulissen GP
It was a bit weird going to a race with no intention of racing. But as it was Roel's race and organized by Tony and Irena Paulissen, I had to go and show my support. These two have been with us at every race during the past two years, driving the truck, and creating a super nice atmosphere. I started the race, but pulled out after 100m, so to not agitate my infection anymore.
But the trip was still well worth my while! Gilberto Simoni was the guest of honor and the evening before the race we all went out to a little Italian joint for pasta. Simoni didn't speak much English, but he could manage a little French, so I was able to speak a little with him and his friends. Of course this was not a big event for him, but I was still very impressed by how relaxed he was. We also had some luck to find a very authentic Italian restaurant and cafe where he seemed right at home.
Race day was a bit strange. The event was super nicely done and while watching the race, I was wishing I could have been in there, in the front group battling it out. But then again, I did have some nice company with the three beautiful podium girls, so in the end I was certainly not complaining!
